Tungsten, a rare metal with extensive applications in modern industry, is known as the "industrial tooth." With its high melting point and great strength, tungsten is a refractory rare metal. It is not only used in light bulb filaments but can also form extremely hard compounds with carbon; it has extremely wide-ranging applications in numerous fields, including aerospace, atomic energy, automotive, electrical, electronics, and chemical industries.

While tungsten is extremely scarce globally, China not only boasts abundant reserves but also exports large quantities annually to other countries. It can be said that China's tungsten mines hold a near-monopoly in the world, but is this resource truly inexhaustible?

Is there inexhaustible tungsten?
Of course not.

China is the country with the richest tungsten resources in the world. 252 explored mines have been identified, distributed across 23 provinces (regions). In terms of provinces (regions), Hunan (primarily scheelite) and Jiangxi (primarily wolframite) have the most, accounting for 33.8% and 20.7% of the national total reserves respectively; Henan, Guangxi, Fujian, Guangdong, and other provinces (regions) follow. (Data source: Kuangbao Huicui) 90% of the tungsten consumed annually by the global tungsten industry comes from China. In tungsten mining, scheelite has high reserves but is difficult to mine. In contrast, wolframite is of better quality and easier to mine, making it the primary target for tungsten mining. However, wolframite reserves only account for 40% of scheelite reserves. As a non-renewable resource, cheap and unreasonable mining has led to a serious resource crisis for wolframite. (Data source: Mine Road Network)

Currently, China has implemented a series of countermeasures to strengthen the management of the tungsten mining industry, enabling the rational, healthy, and sustainable development of the tungsten mining industry. Tungsten has been included in the strategic mineral catalog formulated in the "National Mineral Resource Plan (2016-2020)" approved by the State Council. A series of policies have also been introduced to regulate and restrict the mining and export of tungsten, adjust the development and utilization structure of tungsten mineral resources, and promote the exploration and development of "green minerals."

How to make the most of tungsten?
Jumper Technology JPXRT

According to Zhongtung Online's report on August 19, the price of tungsten products has continuously risen by about 15% since June this year. Specifically, the price of tungsten concentrate has risen from 98,000 yuan/ton to 114,000 yuan/ton, an increase of 16.3%; the price of tungsten powder has risen from 230 yuan/kg to 260 yuan/kg, an increase of 13.9%. This is due to the increased demand for cemented carbide, the largest consumer of tungsten end products, driven by the expansion of infrastructure investment, thus increasing the procurement of tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder. The demand for powder has boosted the market consumption of tungsten chemicals, ultimately leading to the active production and sales of raw materials such as tungsten concentrate and waste tungsten, maintaining high prices. With the strong growth in domestic infrastructure demand for tungsten products, the demand for infrastructure construction under the Belt and Road Initiative, and the fiscal foundation for infrastructure development to maintain stability, there is reason to expect steady growth in the demand for tungsten and tungsten products.

Under the sustained high demand for the tungsten market, a scientific model of coordinated resource, environmental, and ecological development is needed to optimize mining and sorting methods, providing a "green resource" guarantee for the sustainable development of tungsten mineral resources. Jumper Technology JPXRT intelligent ore sorting equipment is committed to promoting the comprehensive utilization of mineral resources and helping mining enterprises build green mines. It adopts a detection and analysis method combining X-ray, ultraviolet fluorescence, near-infrared, visible light, and laser imaging to perform rapid and accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of tungsten ore, thus achieving qualitative and quantitative analysis and identification of tungsten ore of different varieties, grades, and particle sizes. Parameters can be set according to different raw ore production and sorting needs, and self-optimization can be achieved to quickly complete the sorting task of raw ore.

How effective is the intelligent sorting of tungsten?

Quite good.

In terms of intelligent sorting of tungsten ore, Jumper Technology JPXRT intelligent sorting equipment has multiple application examples. In late September 2019, Hunan Anhua Xiang'an Tungsten Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Xiang'an Tungsten") applied the Jumper Technology JPXRT-1400 intelligent sorting system in the scheelite sorting process. In subsequent formal industrial production, Xiang'an Tungsten achieved a capacity of 80t/h, an operating waste disposal rate ≥35%, an operating recovery rate of approximately 97%, and an operating tailings grade ≤0.03%. The online operation of the Jumper Technology JPXRT-1400 intelligent sorting system significantly reduced the consumption of grinding and flotation equipment, electricity, and flotation reagents for Xiang'an Tungsten. The discarded waste rock was sold as building materials, reducing tailings discharge, increasing the service life of the tailings pond, improving the company's economic benefits, and making the company's mineral resources "utilized to the fullest."

In the long run, the development and utilization of mineral resources such as tungsten ore require the assistance of intelligent equipment such as the Jumper Technology JPXRT intelligent ore sorting system to change the traditional industrial mining development model, accelerate mine transformation and upgrading, establish a new green development model for the mining industry based on the requirements of ecological civilization, expand the supply scale of green resources and green mineral products, make green the main mark of high-quality development of the mining industry, and promote the safe, stable, rational, and sustainable development and supply of mineral resources.
