Flotation principle

Flotation is a separation technique that utilizes the differences in the physicochemical properties, especially the wettability of the surface, of minerals. It commonly employs the addition of specific flotation reagents to widen the differences in wettability between materials. At the solid-liquid-gas three-phase interface, one or more target materials are selectively enriched, thus achieving separation from waste materials. Most minerals in nature have poor flotability and require flotation reagents to enhance it. This enhancement must be selective, meaning it only enhances the flotability of one or several minerals, while not enhancing, and sometimes even weakening, the flotability of others. This allows for the artificial control of mineral flotation behavior.
