On October 26, 2023, at the "Belt and Road" Geoscience Cooperation and Mining Investment Forum of the 2023 (25th) China International Mining Conference, the International Mining Research Center of the China Geological Survey, Ministry of Natural Resources, released the Global Mining Development Report 2023 (hereinafter referred to as the "Report").
The report shows that mining equipment is moving towards intelligence. 5G technology is applied to multiple scenarios of intelligent mining, transportation, and smelting, effectively promoting the intelligent transformation of mines. Artificial intelligence has been applied in resource exploration, process optimization, and asset management, improving the efficiency of mine production decision-making. In addition, the global supply and demand structure of mineral resources has undergone new changes in the post-pandemic era, and international mining cooperation faces new opportunities and challenges.
In terms of supply and demand, in 2022, the newly added reserves, output, and consumption of global energy resources continued to diverge. Among them, the output and consumption of coal both hit record highs; copper supply growth lagged behind demand, with consumption increasing by 3.72% year-on-year. In terms of trade, the overall volume of global major mineral product trade decreased, but the trade volume of strategic emerging minerals increased.
The report points out that mining development should strengthen investment in technological innovation, promote mining development to support the achievement of "dual carbon" goals, and utilize advanced technologies such as satellite remote sensing, big data, and the Internet of Things, to promote the innovation and upgrading of mining technology and accelerate the construction of digital mining and intelligent mines.
